Yoshukai karate is a Japanese style of karate founded in 1963. It is known for its rigorous physical training, respect for others and traditions. Practitioners of Yoshukai are world renowed for their incredible demonstrations and tournament success.

Northeast Branch
Yoshukai karate is offered at the Northeast Branch under the direction of Hioaka Toyama, who has studied martial arts for more than 35 years and a certified 7th degree black belt. Mr. Toyama has taught for the YMCA for more than 10 years. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or a beginner, Mr. Toyama will make you feel comfortable while offering you the highest level of instruction.

Through Yoshukai karate, you will learn sparring and forms, self-discipline and self-defense and improved fitness level, concentration and self-estee
Martial Artsm.

Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays:
Youth from 6-7 p.m.
Adults from 7-8 p.m.
Cost: $30/month for members; $60/month for program participants

classes are led by Senior Instructor Tony Whitmer, registered nurse and 4th degree black belt in American Kenjutsu, 3rd degree black belt in Kwanmukan Karate, 2nd degree black belt in Chungmukwan Taekwondo

Youth Karate/Kobudo, Tues/Thurs, 5-7 pm
Adult Tai Chi & Self Defense, Tues/Thurs 7-9 pm
Cost: $40/month for family members; $80/month for program participants

Junior Black Belt, Sat, 9-10 am
Cost:  $20/month for family members; $40/month for program participants
